Upskill Piemonte

A project by Fondazione Sviluppo e Crescita CRT with Upskill 4.0 to connect young people and businesses in the region

Upskill Piemonte is a program now in its third edition which, over time, has promoted key sectors for the economic and social development of the region: agri-food and tourism (1st edition), energy and biotechnology (2nd edition), and local commerce (3rd edition). In its various editions, it has involved Piedmontese ITS Foundations, creating a stable bridge between students and businesses on real challenges and ready-to-use prototypes. In 2025, the focus shifted to the city of Turin: six entities from the Urban District of Commerce worked with ITS to imagine the services and identity of the neighborhood commerce of the future.

€13 billion
historic record for the value of exports from Piedmontese districts achieved in 2024, up 0.7% on 2023

In three editions, young people and businesses have co-designed solutions for agri-food, tourism, energy, biotechnology, and local commerce in Piedmont.

Enhancing key sectors with implementable prototypes

The goal of Upskill Piemonte was to accompany businesses and workshops on a path of innovation guided by intergenerational exchange. Skilled workers and entrepreneurs shared their knowledge, while ITS students brought fresh ideas, digital skills, and prototyping capabilities. The meeting generated immediately applicable solutions capable of strengthening strategic sectors in the region and restoring businesses to an active role in the future of the territory.

Piedmont, strategic ecosystems and cities undergoing transformation

Over three editions, the project has explored different areas of the Piedmontese economy. The first focused on agri-food and tourism, two sectors that drive the region's appeal. The second focused on energy and biotechnology, sectors that are crucial for sustainability and technological growth. The third edition, held in Turin, looked at local commerce as the economic and social infrastructure of the city, opening a discussion on the future of neighborhoods and the role of local businesses in urban life.

Six solutions to strengthen your online and neighborhood presence

In the latest edition, six stores in Turin's Urban Commercial District—Gioielleria Palmerio, Trifule & Bulè, Cavour 11 DK, Confetteria Stratta, Libreria Internazionale Luxemburg, and Latteria Bera—worked together with ITS students. Each business developed a research, design, and prototyping process: new ways of communicating identity, immersive in-store experiences, digital solutions for interacting with customers, and tools for better connecting physical spaces and online channels. The joint effort generated prototypes and operational roadmaps that have been directly applied, confirming the power of intergenerational exchange as a lever for innovation for neighborhood commerce and for the city of Turin.
